HISTORIC INTERNET/ONLINE SUMMIT SET FOR EARLY DECEMBER

WHAT: The Internet/Online Summit: Focus on Children, a first-ever summit of industry leaders, educators, law enforcement officials, public interest and family advocates seeking common ground to enhance the safety and education of children in cyberspace.
WHEN: December 1-3, 1997 (Monday-Wednesday)

WHY: To address safety and content issues related to children and the new mass medium. The Summit comes about six months after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned sections of the Communications Decency Act as an unconstitutional infringement on free speech, and the White House in a meeting with industry and congressional leaders announced this fall summit to discuss private-sector solutions to on-line content inappropriate for children.
